Welcome to the Upstate SC APA!



SubChapter #153 of the American
Payroll Association has been created in the Upstate of South Carolina.  The chapter will serve the areas of Greenville, Spartanburg, and Anderson as well as the other surrounding counties and cities.


    September meeting will be our Annual State-wide Education Seminar.

    The chapter got its start when a small group of payroll professionals decided it was time to provide continuing education and networking opportunities for payroll and human resource professionals in the area. In the future the group hopes to offer study groups for those who would like to sit for the CPP and FPC exams as well as get involved in the community.

        Payroll Specialist, Full Time
        Location: Greenville, SC

        Responsible for delivering exceptional customer service while processing payrolls of varying size and complexity for multiple small to mid-sized businesses. Additional responsibilities include interacting and assisting clients with new employee onboarding process, ensuring all documentation is received and accurately processed for payroll production and setting up employee profiles (eg, personal information, tax deductions, garnishments, levies, etc.) in payroll software.

         Minimum Requirements:

         High School Diploma required; Associate's degree (A.A) or equivalent in accounting or other business-related field is strongly desired

        • 3+ years of payroll processing experience required
        • Solid understanding of payroll and payroll tax laws is also a must
        • Proficient in MS Office, data entry and office equipment (i.e. telephone, head set, 10-key or calculator, PC, FAX machine, photo copier)
        • Excellent organizational, planning and prioritization skills
        • Ability to multi-task with speed and accuracy in a fast-paced environment
        • Ability to learn new software quickly

         Payroll Administrator
        Job Description: Aston Carter is seeking a temporary contract position as a Payroll Admin for a corporate organization in Greenville, SC.  The right candidate would have 2-4 years of full circle Payroll experience using a large payroll system.  The top three skills needed in this position are experience in multi-state payroll, garnishments and payroll tax.  Day to day would be collecting, compiling and entering payroll data as well as processing invoices for payout, etc.  This position would be paying $20/hour.  If you or anyone you know is interested, please feel free to reach out to Kate Dunn at kadunn@astoncarter.com

                                     Payroll Administrator Position


                                        Full Time / Non-Exempt

        The Payroll Administrator will initialize employee time and payroll data.  Compute employees' time worked, production, commissions, and bonus entries.  May compute and post wages and deductions and/or prepare paychecks.  This position performs a variety of general administrative functions for multiple departments.   
        Serve as a dedicated Payroll Admin to an assigned client base
        Manage workflow to ensure all payroll transactions are processed accurately and timely.
        New Hires, Terminations, W4 Changes, direct deposits, garnishments, PTO, insurance, 401(k) deductions.
          Minimum Qualifications:
        High School diploma
        2-4 years experience processing multi-state payroll preferred
        Working knowledge of payroll best practices

        Job Title: PAYROLL COORDINATOR

        Job Summary

        Performs a wide variety of payroll processing activities and record keeping to ensure the timeliness and accuracy of the bi-weekly payroll. Proficient in working in Payroll and Time and Attendance software systems including editing functions.  Provides guidance, direction and education to managers, timekeepers and employees in payroll related matters. 

         Minimum Education

         Associate's Degree - Accounting, Business Administration or closely related field.

         Minimum Experience

         5 years - Payroll experience

         In lieu of the Above Minimum Requirements

         High school diploma or equivalent and 10 years of Payroll experience.

         Other Required Experience

         FPC - Preferred

             Payroll Positions Available:

      Qualifications

      • 4-5 Years of High Volume Payroll
      • Knowledge of payroll principles and practices
      • Computer literate and proficient in MS -Office, especially Excel and Word
      • Accurate data entry skill
      • Demonstrated organizational skills

      Job Duties and Responsibilities

      • Provides superior customer service to all employees
      • Preparation of payroll data for assigned territory; includes approving payroll changes, new hires, terminations, W-4 changes, direct deposit and pay card changes
      • Opens/Processes/Closes payrolls within the Human Resources computer system(s)
      • Prepares and distributes payroll reports/exports/funding, runs GL reports at month end, and calls in NACHA file to bank if Payroll Manager and Lead Payroll Administrator are unavailable.
      • Researches and prepares special reports for management and other personnel
      • Performs calculation of monthly bonus using computerized systems and manual spreadsheets
      • Tests computer systems and upgrades to ensure payroll is processed correctly
      • Review timecards for accuracy for assigned territory
      • Run GL and prepare journal entries for any necessary branch expense changes
      • Trains other payroll personnel
      • Prompt and regular attendance is required
